tataḥ-tad-vipāka-anuguṇānām-evā-abhivyaktiḥ-vāsanānām
Then these [three types of action] yield results in accordance with the subliminal tendencies
The subconscious mind contains multiple impressions (vāsanānā-s); positive and negative and conscious or unconscious. These impressions influence personality traits and tendencies embedded deep in the psyche.
The previous sutra describes the results of three types of actions (white, black or grey). Each action stimulates subliminal tendencies. They tend to lie dormant until the conditions are ripe for their manifestation.
