Due to the unchangeable nature of the Inner Self, mental activities are always known by Pure Consciousness, its lord and mater.
Who are you? Do you really know yourself? When contemplating these questions, who is the perceiving entity? Here, Patanjali points to an important thing: something other than the mind exists, and that is the true master of your Inner Self.
Consciousness is what is often called the Seer or silent witness. The mind is constantly under the influence of universal energies. When you identify with your passing experiences, you are bound to experience a rough ride. Experiences offer you the opportunity to recognize the fundamental difference between the world of change and steadfast consciousness.
