Śrotra-ākāśayoḥ saṃbandha-saṃyamāt-divyaṃ śrotram
Divine hearing is achieved by saṁyama on the intimate connection between the ether and sound
The subtlest thing in the universe is space (ākāśa). The Sanskrit word ākāśa also includes among its many definitions the concepts of atmosphere, sky, and the notion of the ethereal fluid that pervades the whole Universe; it’s the vehicle of life and sound.
The highest outcome of Saṁyama on this mystical element and the relationship between space and sound is, then, divine hearing.
