A little look at the third Sutra ...

saṃskāra-sākṣāt-karaṇāt-pūrva-jāti-jñānam

Knowledge about the origins of previous stages appears when we gain insight into our own conditioning and previous life-states

Saṁyama on your own tendencies and habits will lead you to their origins. This must be done methodically, leaving no proverbial ‘stone unturned’; it is a long journey.  Consequently, you gain deep knowledge of your past lives.
