Yoga sutra 2.04
Avidya ksetram-uttaresam-prasupta-tanu-vicchinna-udaranam
Ignorance is the place of germination of I-am-ness whether dormant or feeble or alternating or active.
Ignorance can be in one of four states: dormant or feeble or alternating or active. Afflictions can exist at various levels and are not always obvious and can lie dormant (prasupta) until something triggers it (udara) and it explodes in your face (!) and may dominate (vicchinna), leaving you at a loss to do anything about it.
