Yoga sutra 1.26
pūrveṣām-api-guruḥ kālena-anavacchedāt
Being beyond the limits of time, īśvaraḥ/the Divine is the master of all masters
īśvaraḥ/the Divine transcends the notion of time and, as such, is the original Guru or teacher. A Guru is one who dispels ignorance and imparts knowledge. God, demigods, yogis, and other humans can be Gurus. All are limited by time except īśvaraḥ/the Divine who is beyond time.
